2016 Logan RAW

2016 Logan RAW

The 2nd ever Logan RAW Conference was held on July 1st at Griffith University Logan Campus. Coinciding with Refugee Awareness Week, the conference, which attracted almost 200 attendees, is a one-day event for stakeholders and their front-line staff providing information on refugee and CALD (Culturally & Linguistically Diverse) community engagement. Workshops topics include law and order, language support, educational pathways, government support services, impact of trauma and more.

The conference opened with speeches from Logan Mayor Luke Smith and CEO Gail Ker, as well as a rendition of “The Circle of Life”, sung by Australian performer and 11-year-old Exodus Lale, from Disney’s The Lion King national stage production. Key-note speaker Abdi Aden treated the audience to an inspirational recount of his personal journey from Somalia to Australia, and overall, attendees were enlightened through the various workshops and speakers focussed on helping refugees integrate successfully in their new home. Thank you to those who have helped to make this event a continuing success.
